Upcoming events with Rose Hartley
Workshop: Writing with Humour and Heart at Writers SA – Feb 11, 2023
When: Feb 11 from 1pm – 4pm
Where: Bronwyn Halliday Room, State Library, North Terrace, Adelaide SA
About the workshop:
The best fiction makes us laugh as well as cry. Just look at Pulitzer Prize winning LESS by Andrew Sean Greer, Booker Prize shortlisted WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY BESIDE OURSELVES by Karen Joy Fowler, or the wickedly funny MY SISTER THE SERIAL KILLER by Oyinkan Braithwaite.
In this three-hour workshop, author of MAGGIE’S GOING NOWHERE Rose Hartley will help participants identify the key elements of comedy and where and how to add humour to their work. We analyse what makes a scene funny, what makes a difficult character lovable, and how humour can increase the emotional impact of your writing.
Participants will learn about:
- Different types of humour and how to apply them to your work
- How to hit the right tone to suit your genre
- How to construct funny and lovable characters
This workshop is suitable for writers of all backgrounds who write comedy, dramedy or just want to add a touch of humour to lighten up their work.
